She was super fit and nice. I showed up for the first session, and she measured me, gave me an exercise plan and a very strict, clean diet. At first I was very motivated. But you know how the story goes, after a few sessions, I just eventually quit, because I had not eaten as instructed, or not done all the exercises, and feeling guilty and shame. I had lost my âmotivation.â But I learned I did not quit on her, I quit on me!

In this episode I am talking about quick fixes and why they donât work. I have had a lifetime of them, almost 38 years to be exact. I would look for a diet or exercise plan. I would tell myself, just be good for a few months then youâll lose your weight, and then everything will be okay. I even went to one of those places that had the packaged foods, you ladies know what Iâm talking about. I had this idea if I just ate the food they gave me I would lose all the weight. But the food was not good. I think I ate the desserts and threw the rest away. See quick fixes, they focus on the outside, the food, the exercise, whatever it is. Oh, love. It has been an exciting couple of weeks. We completed our live virtual event in Transform, had a birthday celebration at my house and almost finished with our new free course. When I was first learning this work, the work of changing and being aware of my mindset, it was over whelming. It seemed like so much, it felt like a lot. When I was thinking back to that time, I remember going through my coachâs course like 15 times. I just kept playing all of the different videos over and over again. I was immersing myself in the work. When you become disconnected from the work Lizzie will tell you all the reasons to just quit on yourself. Remember, our brain is always seeking pleasure and avoiding pain. So our brains are trying to pull us back into the cave.

Today I am talking about the brain. You know I love talking about the brain. Iâm a little bit of a nerd for sure, but I love talking about the brain and how weâre wired. Our primitive brain, I call mine Lizzie, is wired to keep us safe, wired to keep us from danger. Think about the cave days, there was a lot of danger. Danger of the elements, lack of shelter, food, water. Lizzie is just responsible for our fight or flight response. But in todayâs world Lizzie gets bored and so change has become danger. Whenever anything changes our Lizzie brain tends to go to this worst case scenario and we resist the change.
